The textbook provides theoretically sophisticated and practically relevant knowledge for the qualified planning of computer networks. Careful network planning avoids design errors and thus helps prevent unnecessary transmission bottlenecks and costly modifications. The necessary steps are described as a detailed workflow, and guidance is provided on which current network technologies meet specific user requirements, along with optimization recommendations. Available CAD tools for supporting computer network design are presented, critically evaluated, and requirements for optimal tools are formulated. The book also presents in detail the CAD system CANDY Framework developed by the authors, which offers an integrated approach to the relevant planning activities in the lifecycle of computer networks.
