The material use of renewable raw materials is presented comprehensively. The materials are categorized according to chemical substance families. Initially, the chemical structure is briefly explained, as it determines the material properties. Macroscopic properties of the materials, commercially available products, processing behavior, applications, and economic conditions are discussed. The significance of coupling material and energy use, as well as concepts of circular economy, are addressed. Finally, an outlook on potential future developments is provided.
