The introduction of electronic data processing has brought about profound changes in all goods-producing and service-providing processes. Although this development started relatively late in transportation, primarily with public transport, its advantages are now clearly evident here as well. In particular, the consideration of the application possibilities for electronic data processing has led to an increasing understanding of transportation and transport means as process-controlled overall systems. The organized and structured engagement with the overall transportation system, especially regarding the electronic control and regulation possibilities of the systems, has also resulted in the practiced safety methodology of transportation, particularly public transportation, undergoing systematic review.
