How can wood be bent or shaped? This book showcases the full range of possibilities. The author first explains the fundamental methods for transforming wood into different shapes. These techniques are presented alongside the construction of appropriate devices and a discussion of the necessary tools, such as bending irons and bending straps, through specific building projects, mostly from furniture making. The author then takes us into various workshops where wood is bent: manufacturers of walking sticks and sleds are visited, as well as different instrument makers, boat builders, and barrel makers. In addition to obvious topics like Shaker boxes and bending in the construction of greenwood chairs, workshops that focus on more unusual objects are also explored: curved laminated constructions that support entire hall roofs.
