Product details

English is indispensable as a specialized language and lingua franca in the international business context. This study analyzes its use in multimedia conferences for the first time, where participants are located in different places while processing visually presented data. The study demonstrates the (non)verbal means employed to master this highly specific communication. One finding is that multilingualism and multiculturalism influence the interaction structure. This is evident in specific forms of code-switching, code-mixing, and co-lingualism, as well as in two functionally distinct types of speech pauses. Detailed transcripts of the conferences are provided as a valuable data corpus for subsequent research.
