Visionaries of modernity
English, German, Bruno Dew, Paul Goesch, Paul Scheerbart, 2016Product details
This book presents architectural visions, drawings, and texts from three German visionaries during the period of upheaval following World War I. The writer, poet, and inventor Paul Scheerbart (1863-1915) inspired architect Bruno Taut (1880-1938) with his ideas of building with colored glass. Paul Goesch (1885-1940), a trained architect, created hundreds of fantastic drawings. He was part of the famous forum for utopian architecture "The Glass Chain," which was founded by Taut in 1919. The expressive art of the young Weimar Republic, whose economy was in decline, was to draw from a variety of sources, with buildings resembling glass grottos or galactic castles. "Dreamers, fantasists, visionaries (...), that is ultimately what we want: utopia!" enthusiastically stated architect Walter Gropius.
