Product details

Alexander Girard (1907-1993) was one of the most significant modern textile designers and interior architects of the 20th century. He worked closely with designers such as Charles Eames and George Nelson, blending influences from Pop Art and Folk Art into a colorful, opulent visual language whose impact is still felt today. The richly illustrated catalog draws from the extensive private estate of Alexander Girard, which has now been comprehensively explored for the first time at the Vitra Design Museum. The book showcases the entire oeuvre of the American-Italian polymath in all its facets and provides the first scholarly critical engagement with his work. Six essays focus on Girard's textile and graphic design for the furniture manufacturer Herman Miller, significant interior design projects such as the Irwin Miller House in Columbus, Indiana (1953), and more.
