Heribert Becker, born in 1942, worked for 30 years as a freelance author for radio after studying German and Romance languages in Cologne, Nancy, and Paris. From the mid-1970s, he increasingly specialized in surrealism in his publications. As an author, exhibition organizer, editor, and translator, he has published over 80 books to date, with about half of them focused on surrealism: anthologies and, above all, translations of works by authors such as André Breton, Benjamin Péret, Leonora Carrington, Jacques Prévert, among others. Khalid Al-Maaly, born in 1956, left Iraq in 1979 for political reasons. He has lived in Cologne since 1980 as a writer, translator, and publisher. In 1991, he received the Förderpreis of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Mahmoud Darwish was born in 1941 in the village of al Birwe near Akko (Palestine). After several imprisonments, he left Israel and went into exile in 1970. Darwish is regarded as one of the outstanding poets of the Arab world and as the poetic voice of the Palestinian people. He last lived in Amman and Ramallah. He passed away in 2008 in Houston, Texas.
