The theoretical training for laboratory professions has changed completely with the reorganization in 2000 and 2002. The focus is on acquiring a practical and process-oriented approach in the sense of lifelong and independent learning. Volume 1 of the book series 'Action-Oriented Training for Laboratory Professions' has consistently implemented this modern approach. The goal, in addition to solidifying fundamental chemical and physical knowledge, is to guide future laboratory employees towards independently and holistically planning, executing, and evaluating processes. Therefore, the book essentially aligns with the methodology outlined in the framework curriculum of the Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK, 2000 and 2005). The content includes chemical and physical fundamentals necessary for training in a laboratory environment up to the first extended examination: combining substance systems, separating substance systems, structure and properties of substances, physicochemical fundamentals of analytical synthetic work, basics of organic synthesis chemistry, quantification through wet chemical analyses, photometric and chromatographic methods, and large-scale processes. Selected processes are used to build knowledge step by step.
