Bavaria is not only famous for its art and beer but primarily for Gstanzl, and those are by me. The one who sang this was none other than Roider Jackl, the Bavarian Gstanzl king. Born in 1906 in Weihmichl near Landshut, he lived many years in the cathedral city of Freising, where a monument was erected in his honor after his death in 1975. Roider Jackl helped the Schnaderhüpfl or Gstanzl experience a great renaissance in the post-war period. He lifted it out of its originally rural and agricultural context and brought it to the wider public with the help of radio and television. Schnaderhüpfl, Gstanzl, or simply Gsangl were originally cheeky and sometimes even risqué songs that the young men would sing to each other during church fairs to impress the girls.
