Those who travel the countryside with open eyes will discover numerous valuable historical buildings that are at risk of decay, and whose disappearance from our landscape and townscapes seems to be only a matter of time. "The Desolate House" addresses this irretrievable loss of our cultural heritage and portrays dilapidated and abandoned structures - farms, residential and artisan houses, agricultural and ancillary buildings. Stefania Peter captures what cannot be photographed: free from distracting surroundings, the drawings convey the architectural quality of the buildings still preserved in their decay, highlighting their structure, materiality, and proportions. The focus is directed towards the essential, and the aesthetics of the houses emerge despite their deterioration. The drawings are accompanied by quotes from notable figures from various eras.
