The essays collected in volumes 1 and 2 are written from the experience of psychoanalytic practice. They deal with the psychoanalytic treatment method, its theory, and praxeology. The author's theoretical position is based on Freud's fundamental views and received significant impulses from Sándor Ferenczi and Michael Balint. This signifies a shift in emphasis from the objective work on the material to work on the interaction, i.e., the dynamics of transference and countertransference. As a result, certain concepts of Freudian theory prove to be in need of revision, such as transference, working through, fantasy, defense mechanisms, and abstinence. In particular, it becomes evident that Freud had to exceed the rules of his technical writings in his practical work, leaving us with the task of rethinking the technical problems ourselves.
