What causes some young Muslims to become radicalized, especially far from their cultural homeland? Erdem Özbek seeks answers to this question through intensive interviews. He is himself part of the second generation of migrants in Germany, equipped not only with personal experiences but also with a scientific background. Nihat, for example, lives in Germany as the son of Turkish parents, somewhere between family tradition and German pop culture. As a teenager, he comes across religious youth magazines. The texts resonate with him, conveying content that is not discussed at home or in school. Nafi, on the other hand, learns from his colleagues in a West German factory that there are at least ten different interpretations of Islam that he is not familiar with from home. Which one is right? The Turkish youth born and raised here are considered very corrupt, believes Nafi.
