Vom Übersetzen
German, Paul Ricoeur, 2017Product details
Paul Ricoeur, whose works are based on the ability to engage in dialogue with other texts and authors, seeks in this essay a conceptual framework to think about translation and to legitimize translation as an object of a philosophy of language. To do this, he must replace the traditional pair of the translatable and the untranslatable with a practical dilemma of memory work and mourning work. Memory work to forget the resistances of language, and mourning work to bury the illusion of a perfect translation. Ricoeur sees the true purpose of translation in the openness and hospitality of language and advocates for a logic of reconciliation between one's own language and the foreign language.
