Vom urbanen Sozialraum zur telekommunikativen Stadtgesellschaft

Product details
The work analyzes (urban) spatial issues in the context of power-theoretical and gender-sensitive analyses. By referencing Pierre Bourdieu's theory of capital and Henri Lefebvre's works on urban sociology, as well as lesser-known French sociologists in the Federal Republic, the author demonstrates that the capitalization of cities creates its own spatiality, how a hierarchical reality emerges from the virtuality of space in the course of globalization processes, and what influence this has on gender relations: the city is more than just urban space; it has its own quality. This connection is exemplarily documented through the case of telecommuting, critically questioning the emancipation promise of this newer form of work.
