Time and again, accusations of blasphemy are raised against publications that offend religious sentiments. In a religiously plural world with globally influential media, public peace can be easily disturbed. But what do the individual legal systems actually understand by blasphemy or the related offense of incitement to religious hatred? The author compares not only state and international law but also religious and interreligious law. Central to this discussion is whether these regulations take into account the interactions between different religions and worldviews, thereby contributing to the protection of (inter-)religious peace. Additionally, the constitutional framework defined by freedom of expression and freedom of religion is outlined.
