Product details
From Stresemann to Hitler, from the 'golden years' of the Weimar Republic to National Socialism: The English ambassador Sir Horace Rumbold was an observer of a dramatic phase of German politics from 1928 to 1933. The investigation into Rumbold's activities in Berlin sheds new light on this period. The research findings illustrate Stresemann's desperate efforts to gain understanding for German revisionism. They reveal British policy towards Stresemann, necessitate a reassessment of Brüning, and simultaneously serve as a chronicle of a republic in decline. Rumbold's view of the Nazi dictatorship remained ambivalent: The author demonstrates that British politicians of the 1930s could also refer to what their ambassador reported from Germany in 1933 in their 'appeasement' strategy.
