What images do doctors and caregivers have of aging and the health of older people? Are these images influenced more by education, profession, or by personal biographical experiences? What attitudes do doctors and caregivers have towards prevention and health promotion, especially concerning older individuals? What can they implement from these attitudes? What hinders them from putting their attitudes into practice, and what assists them in doing so? Such questions are particularly relevant in times of demographic change from a health and social policy perspective. The authors explore these questions through an empirical study. They reveal a slice of the reality of how professionals in healthcare perceive older individuals and aging. They also call for a stronger consideration of the topics of aging, health, and prevention in training, further education, and professional development.
