The focus of the qualitative research project is the question of which images of aging and old age prevail and are conveyed in schools. To this end, curricula and school and reading books from primary and lower secondary education were analyzed, and students from the second and ninth grades, as well as their teachers, were interviewed. The project provides insights into which images and discourses of age are conveyed in the various school types of the old and new federal states, and what perceptions of age the students and teachers themselves hold. Based on the results obtained, approaches for a more nuanced consideration of images of age in school instruction were discussed with representatives of educational practice, and corresponding suggestions were developed.
