Global climate change also has regional and local consequences in Germany. In addition to strengthening climate protection to mitigate climate change and its effects, there is a growing need for proactive societal adaptation to emerging impacts. This requires communication and participation processes that adequately inform and involve the affected population. The book initially develops the approach of adaptation communication in a theoretical-conceptual manner. Using the case study of climate change and flooding, current communication processes are then empirically analyzed in a comparative manner in the areas of Bremen and Hamburg that are likely to be affected. The book concludes with a discussion on further research needs and design options for practice.
