Masculinity, as this highly successful book demonstrates, is a socially constructed category that is no longer clearly defined. It vividly describes how the social gender 'male' has emerged and how individual men cope with the diversity and crises of modern masculinities. In two new chapters, the author sheds light on the previous reception of her work on "hegemonic masculinity" and places gender relations in the context of a neoliberal world society.
