Frank Neubert explores how religion is constituted as a category and how objects and actors in the social environment are discursively framed as religious. The focus is on the activated differences and the positions of the actors within these discourses. The study also examines the spectrum of different, sometimes diametrically opposed classifications, the hierarchies associated with them, and their historical, social, and political implications. The author proposes a discursive approach to engage with the category of religion scientifically, without having to define religion, classify objects, or take a position in the examined discourse.
