Effective compliance management is a current topic that is being intensively addressed by both academia and practice. Antonia Stessl explores the question of why noncompliant behavior continues in companies despite existing legal and regulatory requirements as well as comprehensive internal control systems. By examining social dynamics and processes that occur within companies, particularly in corrupt networks, she illustrates how individual employees are prompted to engage in illegal activities over the long term. The sociological approach of the study, conducted in cooperation with an internationally operating company, offers new insights for the development of effective corruption prevention and combat strategies.
