Product details
This study examines elites in East Central Europe from a comparative perspective. The spectrum of elites ranges from communist leadership groups to new power elites and counter-elites, with the period of investigation spanning from 1968 to 2013. Based on extensive empirical research, including detailed interviews, documents, and print media, the author sheds light on the changes in elites in Poland, the Czech Republic, and the GDR/East Germany. The focus is on a deeper understanding of democratization, elite formation, and legitimacy conflicts before and after the revolutionary upheavals of 1989.
