The present study was developed as a result of a project funded by the German Research Foundation, which was originally conceived under the title: "Media Policy in Europe between National Interests and Market Internationalization - An Investigation into EU Policy and Strategies of Media Corporations." In this project, Dr. Peter Wilke, Dr. Volkert Wiesner, Urte Sonnenberg, Dr. Torsten Rossmann, Barbara Thomas, and Arnold C. Kulbatzki contributed at different times and with varying intensity. As publications on subfields of the thematic framework increasingly emerged during the project's duration, we decided to modify the research question towards a theory-driven approach. With a spatial theoretical analysis of Europe, we aim to provide a systematic structure to the numerous empirical works.
