In the discourse surrounding migration and integration in Germany, there are always high expectations placed on football as a driver of social change. Football and football culture represent a symbolically condensed space of social interaction, where identities are negotiated: sports practices reflect and construct societal role models such as belonging or gender. However, until recently, there was hardly any space for football-enthusiastic girls from immigrant families. Since 2006, the former DFB model project for the social integration of girls through football, which supports girls from marginalized neighborhoods, has developed into a nationwide success model. The book presents various facets of the project through contributions from academia and practice, providing a realistic view of the integration and development potentials.
