The work contributes to empirical organizational research in general and to police research in particular. It develops an empirical approach to everyday practices in organizations and the organizational cultures underlying these practices. Since the 1970s, the relationships between officers on one hand and citizens and suspects on the other have been extensively studied within German police research. However, the internal relationships within the police, especially against the backdrop of practiced hierarchical relationships, have hardly been analyzed so far.
