An autobiography is best viewed without its author when it comes to the subject matter. The author presents themselves as a witness to the events and to their own life. This does not spoil anything. An era is being observed. By whom? That is always the question. The concept of identity is an interdisciplinary key term of the 20th century, discussed not only in social psychology but also in history and literary studies from various perspectives. The difficulty in reaching an agreement on its elements and forms arises from differing assumptions and ideas about the nature and formation of identity. While identity in social psychology refers to an individual's internal self-image or representational self-concept, sociology understands identity as an interactional and situationally shaped action.
