Golo M. Bartsch examines the security policy implications of climate change in the Arctic in a unique way that has not been seen in German-speaking research so far. From an interdisciplinary perspective, he connects current natural and social science findings regarding the profound changes in the High North and compares the political strategies of the eight Arctic coastal states, NATO, and the EU. Thus, the Arctic currently appears to be a region characterized more by peaceful cooperation than by conflict, even in the face of increasing military presence and stagnant relations between the Western coastal states and Russia.
