Such resonant places, landscapes, and natural environments can also be characterized as "therapeutic landscapes," as described by Gesler. This term refers to the qualities and values of landscapes that promote health in a very broad sense. This effect cannot be solely derived from their physical qualities; it is also culturally generated in a symbolic manner. This connection between landscape and both mental and physical health is what is at stake.
