The concept of quality of life provides a framework for analyzing the living conditions of people with disabilities and for the further development of the rehabilitation system. Based on social science approaches to quality of life research, Markus Schäfers develops the foundations for a quality of life assessment for people with disabilities aimed at user-oriented evaluation of housing and support services. In this context, particular attention is given to the methodological challenges of surveying people with intellectual disabilities, analyzing the available repertoire of instruments, and presenting results from methodological research. The analysis of the dimensions of quality of life highlights the significance of both individual variables and structural characteristics of residential facilities for individual quality of life.
