Petra Stein examines the shaping of lifestyles from a diachronic perspective, taking into account social background as well as life history and career trajectory, and thus the process of habitualization. This aims to address the open question in previous lifestyle research of whether and to what extent lifestyle is influenced by social origin and the socialization-specific development of the individual, and how the influence of social origin changes through mobility and the current position held.
