The recession that began in 2008 - often referred to as the global financial or economic crisis - provoked demands from the public, economy, and politics for government intervention to mitigate the consequences of the crisis. Among the most prominent examples are the discussions surrounding the nationalization of HRE and financial aid for the car manufacturer Opel. The book explores how major news media addressed and evaluated the call for state intervention. It focuses on which types of government interventions received support and which faced rejection, which actors were able to present their viewpoints in the media discourse, and the communicative strategies used to justify these positions.
