More and more schools are now working with online learning platforms. These internet-based tools combine a variety of information, communication, and assessment functions with a password-protected individualized access. Learning platforms can make teaching processes more transparently structured and support phases of self-directed learning. They are suitable for intensifying lesson preparation and follow-up as well as for communication beyond the classroom. Through these and other potentials, learning platforms can contribute in various ways to fostering a new learning culture, where learners increasingly work independently and teachers are less knowledge transmitters and more learning facilitators or role models in learning.
