This textbook conveys the theoretical foundations as well as the practical application of multilevel analysis, which allows for the determination of the influence of the social context on individual behavior. Using datasets from empirical educational research, such as those made famous in Germany by the PISA 2000 study, the practical basics of multilevel analysis are presented, utilizing the free software program MLA. The freeware programs and datasets used in the book are available for free online. This textbook is aimed at instructors and students of advanced statistics courses in BA/MA programs in quantitative social research. Only knowledge of the linear regression model is required.
