In the last decade, the societal and political demand for more civic engagement has become increasingly vocal. However, it remained unclear what motives and orientations drive this engagement. Unlike previous research that focused on general motives and political orientations of citizens, this study demonstrates that civic engagement is much more influenced by the biographical development of specific motives and the sense of community among actors regarding the practical logic of certain social action fields.
