Product details
Since the mid-20th century, migrations from the city to the surrounding areas have determined spatial mobility and thus the socio-economic situation of communities in Germany. In a micro-macro theoretical study, Kim Lücking shows for North Rhine-Westphalia that the extent of this population suburbanization has decreased at the beginning of the 21st century. The author examines possible triggers in the life course of actors using event analysis methods. In younger birth cohorts, there is an increasing trend of moving to the core area with the first educational and employment opportunities. Additionally, first (non-marital) partnerships and upcoming births are less frequently a trigger for relocations from the core area to the outskirts. As a result of these changes, the process of population suburbanization is slowing down.
