Racism is not only expressed in prejudices or discourse. Everyday practices and institutions are also structured by racism. Following Bourdieu's theories of social space and symbolic violence, Anja Weiss develops a model of racism as a symbolically mediated dimension of social inequality. The evaluation of group discussions and role plays with anti-racist real groups shows how they competently avoid open racism and where racist effects occur despite their efforts. Intercultural conflict dynamics become understandable as an expression of structural power asymmetry.
