This introductory book reconstructs current sociological (action-theoretical, phenomenological, and discourse-theoretical) as well as feminist perspectives on the body. The synthetic integration primarily focuses on a critical examination of the achievements, limitations, and reductions of each perspective, particularly addressing the theoretical deficit in contemporary (social) constructivist analyses. With Bourdieu and Kreckel, processes of gendering that shape the body and influence the embodied experience of gender are also understood as processes shaped by the unequal distribution of social resources. A chapter on Argentine tango brings the sociological analyses "to the dance floor.".
