Social capital is linked in multiple ways to the system of social inequality. On one hand, the constitution of individual local environments is influenced by the social-structural embedding of individuals. On the other hand, social inequalities can be produced directly and indirectly through social capital. The contributions in this volume address various facets of this complex interrelationship both theoretically and empirically. They examine not only individual characteristics of inequality but also the conditions of inequality in different societies.
