Product details
Ferdinand Tönnies is regarded as the "grandmaster" of German-speaking sociology. His seminal work "Community and Society," first published in 1887, became a milestone in the development of modern sociology at the beginning of the 20th century. Through the works of Max Weber and Talcott Parsons, his sociological fundamental concepts have become common knowledge within the international scientific community. The writings published in this volume document Tönnies' intellectual development, starting from his initial draft of "Community and Society" from 1880-1881 to his eponymous contribution in the Handbook of Sociology edited by Alfred Vierkandt, published in 1931. The studies compiled here for the first time in a single volume clearly illustrate the extent to which we still owe him today.
