A central thesis of the book, besides its philosophical resting point in modernity, is that social work, beyond all constructions of a double mandate, ultimately has only one mandate: to support people in activating their powers, who are temporarily or permanently unable to establish themselves in their environment, fulfill their obligations, realize their desires, and thereby find and experience meaning, identity, pride, dignity, and well-being. The perspective of liberating social work is consistently adopted.
