In this book, we provide a descriptive report on the results of the Third International Mathematics and Science Study, conducted under the auspices of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement. The report presents findings for the Federal Republic of Germany in an international comparison. For the first time in many years, data is available that provides information about the knowledge and skill levels achieved by German students in selected grade levels in mathematics and the natural sciences. More and more countries view a solid, understanding-focused education for the younger generation in mathematics and the sciences as an investment in their technological future.
