In the context of a qualitative interview study, Anne Schröter analyzes the strategies families develop to overcome neediness as defined by SGB II. The focus is on so-called "Aufstocker" families, who, despite having their own income, rely on additional ALG II benefits. By analyzing the action strategies of these families, the study empirically demonstrates the significance families attribute to exiting neediness and the challenges they face in doing so. Additionally, by considering institutional action conditions, it highlights how families respond to demands from the job center on one hand and incentives from family policy on the other. Thus, this study connects perspectives from family sociology, labor market sociology, and action sociology.
