The social movement that led to the overthrow of the authoritarian regime of Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines (1965 - 1986) saw significant involvement from church actors. They seem to confirm the assumption that religious organizations can be viewed as a resource pool and opportunity structure for social movements. Through an ethnographic case study, Monika Treber examines how minority groups within the Catholic Church in the Philippines seek to mobilize support for their controversial social-diaconal practices in transnational inter-church relations. Questions from movement sociology regarding the "framing" and "framing strategies" of this mobilization are linked with methodological and methodological questions about the conditions of self-reflective qualitative research in social movements.
