Work situation analyses were at the beginning of the foundation of labor and industrial sociology in post-war Germany. Methodical application and further development proved to be laborious and difficult in the following period, resulting in repeated attempts that found only a limited response. The increasing dissolution of boundaries and flexibilization of gainful employment in the current era makes it urgently necessary to reactivate this approach of subject-relative methodology in labor research and to bring it to a practicable level. The present volume provides an initial basis for this.
