Product details
Based on the results of a large-scale longitudinal study among East Berlin students, this book offers a critical and constructive reflection on the educational approach to adolescents who consume drugs. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, illegal drugs had no relevance in everyday life in the GDR. After the Wall came down, it became possible to observe how young people in East Germany approached these substances. Over six years, the authors investigated the knowledge, attitudes, communication styles, and behaviors of East Berlin youth regarding illegal drugs. The research was grounded in a sociologically informed concept of drugs, which also allows for a differentiation between drug use and drug abuse. The book presents the empirical findings, highlighting its significance.
