How can the emergence of an economic cluster in a city be understood? By engaging with economic, sociological, spatial scientific, and political science approaches, a praxeological research approach is developed, which is used to analyze the initiation and implementation of a microsystem technology cluster in the Dortmund area. Based on several years of empirical research, the multiple staging of this cluster is interpreted as a result of the influence of various social practices and associated arrangements, in which different actors and groups of actors are involved.
