How did Poland rise from being a satellite state of the Soviet Union to a commander in Iraq and a significant player on the European stage? What role(s) does Poland assign to itself after 1989, and what factors contribute to this? This book provides answers to these questions and analyzes the changes in Polish foreign policy since 1989 through the lens of role theory. The focus of the study is on Polish European policy, transatlantic relations, and Poland's role as a regional leadership power.
