Politics and parents are increasingly calling for more men in daycare centers, while male educators still provoke irritation as they break conventional patterns of masculinity. On one hand, they are sought after as role models, especially for boys; on the other hand, there is also a degree of mistrust towards men. In this study on the 'Doing Masculinity' of male educators, Anna Buschmeyer examines the attributions to men and masculinity in the teaching profession and their impact on work behavior, contributing to a more nuanced view of masculinity. It becomes clear that educators handle the demands of their 'manhood' very differently. The author addresses this diversity through the development of the type of alternative masculinity, as a complement to Connell's model of hegemonic masculinity, thereby making it empirical.
